Dr. Lorena Camstra discusses her research on the “reality shock” new teachers face due to a gap between training and classroom reality. New teachers struggle with classroom management, diversity, and unrealistic expectations because practicums are often too short or observational, lacking hands-on experience. Solutions proposed include longer, more practical training periods, updated curriculum addressing individual differences and neurodiversity, and continuous professional development. Teachers are encouraged to seek peer support, mentorship, and join communities of practice to share experiences, reflect on challenges, and avoid isolation.
