How to get new teachers ready for the classroom



This webinar, moderated by Sirin Soyoz and featuring Lorena Salud-Cadeya Kamstra, discussed challenges in preparing new English teachers. Kamstra’s research, funded by the British Council, examined a Spanish teacher training program, revealing insufficient practical training and unrealistic expectations as major weaknesses. Participants’ feedback highlighted needs for more practical experience, mentorship, and support addressing classroom management, diverse learners, and emotional resilience. The webinar concluded with co-created strategies incorporating these needs for improved teacher preparation.
