Discover UDL’s Interlocking Gears: Beyond the Guidelines | Loui Lord Nelson

Louis Lord Nelson introduced Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a framework centered on learner “variability,” stressing that context profoundly impacts how individuals learn. She discussed her journey to UDL and her development of the “UDL Gears” (Mindsets, Skills, Practices) to show how these elements work together for effective teaching. The webinar modeled UDL’s flexible engagement methods. UDL is about adapting the learning environment and instruction to meet diverse needs, rather than expecting students to be “ready.” She highlighted using AI for engagement and encouraged self-reflection on teaching mindsets.
