The British Council’s 3-day World Teachers Day Conference, themed “Global Voices, Future Focus,” began with Cecilia Nobre’s talk on “Rethinking Teacher Development in a Connected World.” She highlighted the evolution of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) from traditional, top-down methods to modern, self-directed, and flexible approaches. Nobre stressed using technology like video observation, MOOCs, online communities, digital growth maps, and webinars to foster intentional teacher reflection, connection, and experimentation. She concluded by emphasizing curiosity, dialogue, consistent small steps, sharing, and mentoring as vital for professional growth, with technology serving as a supportive tool for pedagogy.
